Finish guide / Cairns
Exposed aggregate brings stone colour and tactile variation to a driveway. It can make a practical arrival feel more deliberate, but the aggregate, sealer, falls and ongoing cleaning should be considered together.
Concrete Finish Options

A practical read
Aggregate size, blend and exposure change the feel underfoot and the visual weight of the driveway. Ask for physical samples and how the chosen surface is expected to age.
While texture can help with footing, no surface is completely slip-proof when wet. Ask your provider what sealer is proposed, how it behaves in strong UV, and what future resealing or cleaning may involve.
For wet-season use, assess the aggregate, sealer, slope and drainage together. Texture alone does not establish safe traction on a sloping driveway.
Exposed aggregate typically costs more than plain concrete due to the specialised mix and the multi-step washing process required to reveal the stone.
Tropical leaf litter and organic debris can stain or encourage slippery build-up if left damp. A sensible rinse and occasional clean is part of looking after the finish.
Aggregate is visually unforgiving when joins, drainage details or garden edges are unresolved. Include edge restraint and transitions in the brief.
